Due to the success of the monthly Thursdays on the Coast art walk in the Carlsbad Village, the summertime event will now run year round.
The Carlsbad Village Association decided to make it a year round event because community attendance has grown, more venues are participating and the visual artists are getting more recognition each month. There are still two more dates to finish out 2009, Nov. 27, which is the Friday after Thanksgiving, and Dec. 31.
Thursdays on the Coast is a free, self-guided art walk that takes place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the last Thursday of each month throughout Carlsbad Village. The walk includes original art in the Village's permanent galleries and also is on display at merchants that are acting as temporary galleries.
The artwork remains at each participating venue until the next month's event, so those who can't attend Thursdays on the Coast can view the works during each venue's business hours.
During the Thursday night event, maps are available at the Hub Info Booth at the fountain on the corner of State Street and Grand Avenue. Maps are available throughout each month at participating businesses in the area.
In addition to live music and art demonstrations, several Village restaurants feature dinner specials. The Thursdays on the Coast map is your passport to these great deals. Also, check out the free gift raffle for some wonderful items from area businesses.
Thursdays on the Coast is a sub-committee of the Carlsbad Village Association. The association's mission is to foster arts and culture in the Village to build the economic strength of the community.
