Ten-time Emmy award winner, Bill Gruber, with BizVid Productions, has demonstrated outstanding career development in broadcasting and production in San Diego County. His current partnership specializes in producing innovative videos for businesses.

Gruber has an extensive resume in local and national broadcast production and management. He was Director of Production and Programming for Cox Communication's Channel 4 and later Box Seat, which eventually developed into the Fox Sports Network. He has done extensive commercial and television production, including producing the first two seasons of the internationally broadcast "Turning Point" for local pastor, David Jeremiah. He also serves on the local board of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

With his partners, Randy Baker and Caz Taylor, the Carlsbad-based company specializes in creating reasonably priced videos for North County businesses. The trio has produced numerous videos for business use and has over four decades of combined production experience. "As a Carlsbad based business, we have a unique service from which nearly every member can benefit," said Baker.

"Over the years, medium and large businesses have used videos for marketing, sales, training, conferences and more. But technological developments have made their production much more economical, so that even small businesses today can afford custom work", explains Gruber.

Asked how BizVid Productions is uniquely qualified to serve Carlsbad businesses, Baker said there are three reasons. "First, we are headquartered in Carlsbad, so our local presence gives us accessibility and focus for local businesses, as well as helping to keep client costs down." He also cites the company's exclusivity in making videos for businesses, not doing wedding or other types of videos. BizVid also offers free consultation to review the needs of any business. And lastly, he said, BizVid has both the award-winning experience and capability to do either full broadcast quality shoots for larger businesses or streamlined, economical products for even the smallest of businesses.

What got you into this business?
My high school social studies teacher said I had a great voice for radio. That created a desire to complete my education at SDSU in Radio/Television. I have worked my way up and down and back up ever since.

Drawbacks to your line of business:
Competing with low bidding young start-ups armed with little more than a consumer camera.

How do you plan to grow?
By seeking niche markets, extensive use of networking, delivering an effective product at a fair price and prayer.

Choice for a second career: TV News Anchor

People you look up to and why:
My recently deceased mother-in-law, Paula MacMootry. She endured hardships in life that most of us would find difficult to endure. Through it all she maintained a great marriage, raised four wonderful children, and unselfishly gave of her talents and possessions.

Advice for new entrepreneurs:
Before taking the plunge, learn as many of life's lessons as you can and put your faith into the hands of one greater than yourself.
