Lou Ann Fricano joins SHW
StrucSure Home Warranty, one of the major providers in the home warranty industry, has added insurance industry veteran Lou Ann Fricano to oversee sales efforts for its sister company, SHW Insurance Services.
“Lou Ann brings more than 30 years of insurance experience to StrucSure Home Warranty and SHW Insurance Services,” said Christopher Macaulay, President of StrucSure Home Warranty. “Her expertise and follow-through will help SHW Insurance Services offer competitive products and hands-on service to the homebuilding industry and to general business and commercial clients; even those who have no homebuilding affiliation. This will allow them to focus on delivering quality to their customers, while leaving the risk and insurance challenges to Lou Ann and her team.”
“Joining the SHW Insurance team gives me the opportunity to provide insurance services on a national scale,” said Fricano. “Partnering with StrucSure Home Warranty will allow me to ensure our homebuilder clients receive the critical attention and assurance they need, especially in an economy where businesses want to cut corners, but simply cannot afford to.”
Prior to joining SHW Insurance Services, Fricano spent 15 years working in commercial building, specifically with homebuilders. She has also worked with Pennsylvania Lumbermens Mutual and Las Vegas-based Leavitt insurance. Fricano holds a CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) designation.
Since 2002, SHW Insurance Services (SHWINS) has provided businesses, builders, developers, subcontractors, and general business and commercial clients nationwide with viable solutions to managing risks, insuring operations, and protecting assets. SHWINS works with only the best carriers and provides the most competitive rates on a number of programs

SkinMedica announced the recent promotion of Ted Schwarz to company president. Mary Fisher, formerly president and CEO, will continue to lead SkinMedica as Chief Executive Officer.
“Ted has directed sector-leading performance at SkinMedica since his arrival five years ago,” said Fisher. “Under his leadership, we have more than doubled our aesthetics skin care revenue, delivering a compounded annual growth rate of more than 35 percent. Vinturi expands into hew headquarters

Vinturi Inc., makers of the Vinturi line of patented wine aerators, has purchased a 60,000 square foot building of office and warehouse space for its rapidly growing business.
“This is now the seventh-largest owner-occupied building in Carlsbad, and the largest owner/user purchase completed in Carlsbad in 2010 to date,” said Aric Starck of Cassidy Turley BRE Commercial, which represented Vinturi in the building purchase.
The new building is a testament to the dramatic growth of the company and the success of the patented Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator, invented by Rio Sabadicci, Founder and CEO of Vinturi Inc. The award-winning Vinturi line has become an essential part of the wine experience for its ability to aerate wine in the time it takes to pour a glass, releasing its full expression and personality. Just three years after the product was introduced in 2007 and named one of the “Revolutionary Inventions of 2007” by Entrepreneur magazine, Vinturi is endorsed and available at over 200 wineries and a bestseller at retail, with accelerated growth fueled by expanding national and international distribution and new products such as the Vinturi Deluxe Aerator Set and Vinturi Travel.
The company outgrew its current 5,000 square foot building in less than two years, and is now moving into a facility 12 times larger.
The new Vinturi headquarters is located at 3193 Lionshead, Carlsbad, CA 92010-4702. Renovations are expected to be completed in the first half of 2011.
Everyday Energy completes local MASH project
Everyday Energy, a full-service solar energy integrator specializing in photovoltaic solar and energy efficiency projects for non-profit, government, commercial and residential applications, has completed the second-ever installation of a Multi-family Affordable Solar Housing (MASH) project in the San Diego area, at the 51-unit Torrey Apartments in El Cajon.
This comes on the heels of Everyday Energy's installation of San Diego's first MASH Solar Project, back in July at the Hacienda Townhomes in downtown San Diego. Both projects were made possible because of Everyday Energy's proprietary Solar Service Agreement (SSA), which along with MASH funding, bring solar energy benefits to the affordable housing community for little or no upfront cost to the non-profit property owner, which in both of these projects was the San Diego Community Housing Corporation (SDCHC).
Everyday Energy is already under contract to begin installation on 14 more MASH and New Solar Homes Partnership projects this year, totaling about 1.8 megawatts. Working closely with SDCHC, California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE) and San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E), the North County company is dedicated to bringing the benefits, promise and affordability of renewable energy to low-income residents.

Rancho Carlsbad residents rally for Teen Center

Over the last four years a special bond has developed between the senior residents of Rancho Carlsbad Estates and the young members of Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad.
First there was a ping pong tournament, after six wild and noisy games the seniors clearly stunned Club teens by winning by a landslide. Many rematches have taken place since that initial romp, but the seniors remain the defending champs. Then came weekly visits made by a group of children to Rancho Carlsbad's gardening plots, where relationships flourished almost as much as their plantings. Other activities have included a fishing derby, holiday caroling, partipation in 4th of July celebrations, making quilts and various art projects — the list just kept expanding.
To top it all off, a group of industrious residents formed a fundraising group and set a lofty goal for themselves, to raise $250,000 for the naming rights of the Teen Center at the new Bressi Ranch Clubhouse. Not only did they meet this challenge, but they exceeded it! Over 30% of the Rancho Carlsbad community made a donation to this project, raising over $260,000 via 153 gifts. To celebrate their success, donors were recently invited to preview the new Teen Center and get an update on construction progress.
“Our 55-and over community rallied behind a needed and most worthy project: to build a Teen Center that will serve hundreds, no thousands, of teenagers over the many years of its existence. We're proud of our accomplishment!” stated Russ Kohl, the fundraising “ringleader” for the seniors. “What this group has done is simply inspiring,” said Brad Holland, Club CEO. “The gift of their time, talent, and treasure will have a lasting impact on Carlsbad's youngsters.
