Local business owner Daniel Sullivan has a vision of creating a strong solar community out of Carlsbad. His company, Sullivan Solar Power, has launched the Carlsbad Solar Program, which offers incentives to all residential, commercial and municipal properties that commit to installing solar power through July 1. The innovative program allows residents to go solar for little to no upfront cost and receive substantial cash-back awards for their involvement.
The locally-headquartered solar provider launched the comprehensive solar advocacy program in late March to inspire residents to declare their energy independence and make a longstanding impact on the community.
"Carlsbad's Solar Program is designed in a manner that will create a critical mass and encourage as many residents as possible to go solar, and hopefully, lead a solar energy revolution where we shift our dependence on fossil fuels to renewable resources," said Sullivan.
The community solar program offers an incentive for Carlsbad residents to encourage their neighbors, groups and friends to go solar. The more people who sign up, the greater the cash-back rewards will be. The incentives offered through the company are on top of the already appealing state rebate and federal tax credit. Participants who sign up before July 1, 2011 will be eligible to receive cash-back incentives at a level that is twice the amount of the current California state rebate.
Since the program started, Sullivan Solar Power has been hosting informational seminars for residents at the Carlsbad City Library. The educational presentations have gone over solar technology, rebates and incentives, case studies and offered details about the Carlsbad Solar Program. The company has also partnered with local nonprofit organizations to support both organizational missions to spread the word within the community.
Sullivan Solar Power started this model of a program nearly two years ago to fall in line with the company's tagline, "Leading the Solar Energy Revolution," and has successfully delivered hundreds of thousands of dollars back to participants in several cities. In Coronado, the company increased the amount of solar in the city by 28 percent and moved up the city's ranking by 19 places in the state for number of solar rooftops.
"In just one minute, the sun casts enough energy upon the Earth's surface to provide the entire world with power for one year, yet less than 1 percent of our electricity is generated from solar. We need to harness this resource for the benefit of our future generations. This is our company's way of contributing to our children's children," said Sullivan. "When you really look at it, with this program, doing the right thing is cheaper than the utility So what are we waiting for?"
