Event supports Women's Resource Center
Some of the members of the Carlsbad Chamber's NetForce1 referral group hosted Shred, Red, Fed! Event June 2 at The Financial Team in Carlsbad.
The free event gave attendees the opportunity to shred their old documents with an on-site shredding company, donate blood to the San Diego Blood Bank and enjoy tasty treats and refreshments.
The event also included a food and clothing drive to support the Women's Resource Center in Oceanside. More than five truckloads of clothing, furniture and nonperishable food items were collected.

Jefferson partakes in World Ocean Day
More than 800 students, teachers, faculty, parents and friends of Jefferson Elementary School in Carlsbad gathered to celebrate World Ocean Day June 8 by organizing a massive photo shoot at Tamarack Beach, where they spelled out the words "SHARE THE PLANET."
Under the leadership of first-grade teacher Arlene Gnade, the group sought to raise awareness about the crucial role the ocean plays in our lives and our shared responsibility of protecting it. In this show of school spirit and environmental activism, the elementary school reinforced the adage that a picture really is worth a thousand words by forming the words to one of the International Baccalaureate themes from its curriculum.

The North County Voice newspaper recently changed to digital distribution and is now committed to interactive information and advanced advertising technology.
"The format has changed, but the content tone and the focus of the paper will remain the same," said Publisher Mary Beth Francis. "This change will mean a greater North County presence for our advertisers and a larger readership for the newspaper's diverse community-related content."
While the paper has been available online for months, July 1 marked the official launch of the full-featured site: www.northcountyvoice.com. Expansions to the Web site include sections like headlines, community news, cuisine, entertainment, health & fitness, seniors, technology, jobs, real estate, coupons, classifieds, comments, traffic, weather and useful links.
CSUSM names Seitz athletic director
Tom Seitz has been named athletic director at California State University San Marcos.
He brings more than 25 years of experience as a student-athlete, coach and administrator. Seitz has led the revitalization or building of new athletic programs and facilities, including planning, fundraising and community engagement.
Previously, Seitz served as the director of athletics for Jacksonville State University in Alabama and Jacksonville University in Florida. At Jacksonville State, his leadership moved their NCAA Division II program to a successful Division I program.
At Jacksonville University, he grew the athletic program from 14 sports and 200 student-athletes to 20 sports and more than 400 student-athletes. Seitz officially began his post at CSUSM on July 1.
Sea Life opens new interactive exhibit
Sharks Revealed, a new exhibit at Sea Life Aquarium, opened last month.
It is designed to be a child's introduction into the lifecycle and evolution of sharks. The interactive exhibit features more than 40 baby sharks and shows their development from egg to adult.
It also features a graphic timeline showing the evolution of sharks, a replica of the jaws of a megaladon and an interactive lab where guests can get hands-on experience with shark teeth, jaws and other artifacts.
The Sea Life Aquarium in Carlsbad already has more sharks than any of the other 29 Sea Life centers world-wide, including black tip reef sharks, white tip reef sharks, zebra sharks, leopard sharks, epaulettes, Port Jackson sharks and rare grey reef sharks. Chris Draper is the new general manager of the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa.
He joined the resort as it begins its second year of operation. Draper is the former executive director of food and beverage for Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort.

Hit TV show films at La Costa Glen
The season finale of ABC TV's hit "Here Come The Newlyweds" was filmed at La Costa Glen, a continuing care retirement community in Carlsbad.
The finale episode featuring La Costa Glen will air at 10 p.m. July 13 on the ABC television network. The show features nine couples who have a chance to win a life-changing cash prize.
By the time the show was filmed at La Costa Glen, just two couples remained. The couples participated in an open forum in the community's Catalina Hall, during which the seniors asked them a battery of questions.

A 2,908 square-foot-industrial property located at 6122 Innovation Way within the Bressi Ranch Corporate Center in Carlsbad has sold.
Coldwell Banker Commercial represented the seller in the transaction. The purchase price of the all-cash deal was not disclosed.
The seller of the LEED-certified property was Palomar Airport Road LLC. The buyer of the two-story building constructed in 2007 was 959 Holdings LLC, represented by Grubb & Ellis.
