H.G. Fenton Co. announces
donation to Alga Norte Park

H.G. Fenton Company announces that it is working with the City of Carlsbad on a financial donation that will support construction of the new state-of-the-art skate park that is planned as part of the Alga Norte Community Park master plan.

The 33-acre community park was approved by the City of Carlsbad in 2003 and will feature a number of amenities designed to enhance the community, including swimming pools, picnic areas, ball fields, hiking trails and the skate park. Construction is expected to start in January 2006, with the public grand opening slated for summer 2007.

Carlsbad was the site of the nation's first skate park, built at Carlsbad Raceway in 1976 and then closed and buried by a prior owner in the mid-1980s. The City of Carlsbad slated the site for commercial development, and H.G. Fenton Company is developing the 147-acre site into a master-planned business community, half of which is being preserved as open space. The city gave the green light for grading to begin on Carlsbad Raceway Business Park last November, but a group of concerned citizens calling themselves the Skate Board Group, approached H.G. Fenton Company in the hopes they could purchase the portion of the site where the park is buried and rebuild it.

"We were very sympathetic to the group's desire to rebuild the park, and agreed to postpone grading that part of the site to give them time to raise the funds for the project," said Mike Neal, president and CEO of H.G. Fenton Company. "We held several meetings with the group over the subsequent six-month period to see if we could help them find a creative solution that would allow them to pursue the project. Unfortunately, the local financial and sports industry support they needed just wasn't there.

"After they advised us that they could not move forward, H.G. Fenton Company then looked for another way to support the community's ties to the skating industry and Alga Norte was an ideal solution," Neal said. "The skate boarding industry and level of expertise of the riders has progressed so quickly, that designing a new leading edge park that features the newest technology in design and materials may be the best scenario possible. We hope that our contribution will help create a high caliber park that skateboarders of all ages and abilities will be able to enjoy safely."

Founded in 1906, the H.G. Fenton Company is one of San Diego's largest private real estate owners and developers with lengthy track record of community involvement and support. The company is headquartered in Mission Valley, at 7577 Mission Valley Road, Suite 200.

Community Web site posts jobs
for Camp Pendleton Marines

Residents of North County and San Clemente can show their support and appreciation for the Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton posting jobs for them to do around your home, yard or office on the free community Web site, www.HireMarines.com.
Despite the sacrifices these Marines are making, many are also under heavy financial stress. They already have a full-time job; but, there are always Marines available for a few hours to help daily chores or to finally take care of that special repair or odd job. Having a place to find immediate work and income can sometimes be a lifesaver for these Marines and their spouses.

The www.HireMarines.com Web site is totally free for everybody. It was started by small business owners Mark and Tori Baird. They own a carpet cleaning business and kept getting calls from Marines or their spouses, asking if they could help out and earn some quick cash. It hurt for them to turn any of them away. So they created a free job posting and search site for the community. They also joined the Oceanside and Carlsbad Chambers of Commerce, who both have Military Affairs committees who work with the general staff at Camp Pendleton. But they need your help too. Please tell your friends and any Marines you know to check out www.HireMarines.com.
