During Meet the Chamber last month, more than 45 business people learned about all of the networking, educational and professional benefits the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce has to offer its members.
The successful networking opportunity gave participants the chance to gain valuable contact information while meeting some of the chamber's members and prospective members.
Chamber member Russell Hampton, an agent with New York Life Insurance Company, said he attended the free luncheon to develop and build business relationships.
“My business is prospecting, so I've got to get my name out there, my business out there, on a continual basis. This provided a great opportunity for it,” Hampton said.
When the event started no one really knew each other, but by the time it was over many people had exchanged business cards, he said.
Participants also met some of the people who serve on the chamber's board of directors, as well as the chamber's staff and committee chairs. Attendees were introduced to the chamber's Small Business Success Center, which offers workshops and counseling. They also learned the functions of this chamber, which unlike most, is a private nonprofit organization that doesn't accept any city funding.
Lori Zoval, the CFO and executive development director of Tahoe Helping Hands Inc., said the event educated her about the chamber. Zoval said she didn't know the Carlsbad Chamber is the second largest chamber in the county and the 10th largest in the state.
She said she also didn't know that the chamber hosts the largest one-day street faire in the nation, the Carlsbad Village Street Faire, which takes place each year in the first weekend of May and November.
“I thought Meet the Chamber was fantastic. There was a very good turnout and a lot of information,” Zoval said.
The quarterly event will again take place in February. For more information or to register for Meet the Chamber, call Jessica Fuentes at (760) 931-8400 or e-mail her at [email protected].
