In an unsure economy, many companies are faced with dwindling budgets but still have the need for increased employee training.
Businesses are seeking targeted training courses that cater to their specific needs in an effort to get the most from their investment. Cal State San Marcos Extended Learning recognizes this need and is offering customized onsite training programs.
This approach allows businesses to customize any program offered in the Extended Learning catalogue, as well as create ones that aren't currently available. Courses are offered in a variety of formats, including half days to ongoing organization initiatives.
The Carlsbad operations of Beckman Coulter Inc. recently took part in the onsite training offered by Extended Learning. The company's personnel were thoroughly impressed with the results.
Beckman Coulter specializes in the clinical diagnostics industry and was in need of customized training for its supervisory staff. Nineteen employees participated in the six-month training program designed to provide up-to-date knowledge of leadership and basic supervisory skills.
Mary Ann Marcuzzi, human resources manager for Beckman Coulter, said she was amazed at how quickly she could see results.
“As the supervisors learned new techniques, they applied them immediately,” Marcuzzi said. “What was learned one afternoon would be seen in practice the next morning.”
She added that the company has implemented the same program with Extended Learning at its Brea facility.
By using the customized approach, organizations have the opportunity to utilize the excellent selection of resources and consultants available to assist in determining unmet training needs. The programs are facilitated by a combination of faculty, independent consultants and working professionals to ensure that the information is immediately relevant.
“The business environment changes at a rapid pace and the challenge of anticipating the future training needs within an organization can prove to be a daunting task,” said Cathy Dellas, senior director of workforce learning and community outreach at Cal State San Marcos Extended Learning. “With our onsite and customized program, we assist businesses in not only determining their training needs, but also with the implementation of the programs that will benefit their company the most.”
The facilitators of the programs invest the time necessary to learn about each organization and its specific program objectives. This commitment ensures that Extended Learning can deliver the method and program content that will result in the achievement of an organization's goals while improving the skill and morale of the workforce.
