A total of $50,000 was donated by the city of Carlsbad to victims of the Katrina hurricane disaster in New Orleans. The City Councilvoted 4-0 to donate $25,000 to the Salvation Army and $25,000 to the American Red Cross. The money will come from the council's $2.3 million contingency budget, which is used for unanticipated expenses.
