The City of Carlsbad hosted a public dedication ceremony May 18 to name Carlsbad's first off-leash dog park in honor of community leader, Ann D. L'Heureux. Mrs. L'Heureux's husband, Hap, was present to unveil a new sign to mark the official naming of the Ann D. L'Heureux Memorial Dog Park.

Mrs. L'Heureux was the driving force behind the creation of the dog park; her beloved standard poodle, Fletcher, cut the ceremonial ribbon at the park's opening in September 2001.

Mrs. L'Heureux was also involved with numerous civic organizations, including the Carlsbad Planning Commission, the board of trustees for the Carlsbad Library, Carlsbad Arts Associates, Carlsbad Historical Society and Carlsbad Arboretum. In 2003, a special committee of the Carlsbad City Council named Mrs. L'Heureux "Citizen of the Year" for her service to the community. She passed away last August at the age of 61, after a long battle with breast cancer.

Other guests included friends, members of the Carlsbad City Council and the Parks and Recreation Commission.
