Back in the early 1900s, when this lassoing photo at the old Kelly Ranch was taken, ranching was a way of life, as it had been for decades before. Fast-forward to present day Carlsbad, notably, Saturday, November 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and get ready to party at the Old West-themed "Fall Festival at the Ranch" hosted by the City of Carlsbad's Recreation Department.
This spectacular event will take place at the 27-acre Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park at 6200 Flying LC Lane (off Melrose Drive, south of Palomar Airport Road), site of the former working rancho belonging to the late actor, Leo Carrillo.
The Fall Festival is still in the planning stages, but one thing is for sure: this celebration for the whole family will include a variety of activities, entertainment and attractions, such as line and square dancing, clogging, bobbing for apples, face painting, trick roping demonstrations, a chili cook off and musical performances by Cowboy Jack and the 117 West bluegrass band.
City and local organizations will staff information booths, enabling visitors to learn about the fire and police departments, the City's Trail program, Water Conservation and other groups. A kids' area will offer activities presented by the Children's Discovery Museum, the Rancho Buena Vista Adobe, Flower Fields, Children's Ten Mobile and Boys and Girls Club, among others. LEGOLAND raffles and park/trail tours will round out the full day of fun.
If you're ready to "fall" into family fun, don't miss the Old West Fall Festival. For more information, call NeSha Thomas at (760) 602-7512, and don't forget your cowboy hat!
