The Carlsbad Village Improvement Partnership, better known as Carlsbad VIP, is a new organization created to assist with revitalization and improvement efforts for the Carlsbad Village Area. The new umbrella organization endeavors to serve as a coordinating base for all business revitalization efforts in the area. This umbrella organization is anticipated to build upon and capture the strengths of the community and all of its associated interests, without the duplication of any current work. There will be many different organizations performing tasks to assist with Village revitalization, and this new organization will oversee and coordinate those tasks in a partnership approach.
The Mission Statement for Carlsbad VIP states, “Carlsbad VIP is committed to creating a vibrant coastal Village through collaborative actions that enhance the vitality of businesses, welcome visitors, sustain the health of our residential neighborhoods, and promote a safe and cohesive community.”
A Village Working Group, comprised of individuals from all segments of the Carlsbad community, has gathered twice a month all summer to implement the key task of establishing this new organization. The Group has created the by-laws for the Carlsbad VIP and recruited for the first Board of Directors. The Board will consist of nine members total and will have representatives from the following categories: 1) property owner/investor/lender/financial; 2) resident; 3) art/theatre/culture; 4) services; 5) Village Retail/Business Owner; 6) general at large; 7) Carlsbad Village Business Association; 8) Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce; 9) Carlsbad Convention and Visitors Bureau. Representatives from North County Transit District and the City of Carlsbad shall serve as non-voting ex-officio board members. The Group is currently reviewing Board member applications and conducting interviews. The Working Group will soon select the first Board of Directors and present them to the public. This new Board will then be responsible for pursuing funding, finalizing the organization's work plan, hiring an Executive Director and developing this non-profit organization further.
To learn more about this new organization and the efforts of the Village Working Group, a community blog was created. Information is being shared through the blog at:
