One of the goals the City of Carlsbad has set for itself is to help our local businesses do business here and attract new businesses to Carlsbad.
So we're excited about a new service we have instituted through the city website that will help any local business search for industrial, retail or office space, and help out-of-town businesses do the same.
The city recently signed an agreement with LoopLink that allows anyone, anywhere to search commercial properties through the city website, www.carlsbadca.gov, for free.
LoopLink is the most widely used search engine for business property, but if you, the average business owner, want to use it, you would face a charge. By providing this service at no charge, the city has made it easier for anyone to research property and gather information.
The site also includes listing agents and a link to contact them. The city is not involved in the transactions, just in providing information for business professionals to work together.
The city signed this agreement with LoopLink because it will help develop our local economy and make it easier for local businesses to do business. It just makes sense for the city to give everyone an opportunity to search business properties, because we think Carlsbad offers opportunities and a location that have no equal.
The beauty of LoopLink is it provides a glimpse of nearly every commercial, industrial and business property listed for sale in the city, including location, images, dimensions, price per square foot and use. Demographic information on the properties is also available.
It's easy to see how this service helps Carlsbad businesses as well as out-of-town firms. For example, maybe you just landed that big contract that pushes you to the next level, and you need to expand. Just log onto the city site and away you go.
Or maybe you're a small startup in the action wear or golf industry, but you're in Fargo, N.D. You want to be where the action is, and that's Carlsbad.
You can search dozens of potential properties by clicking a mouse.
Commercial brokers use LoopLink all the time as a search tool, and swear by its wealth of information and ease of use.
"LoopLink's an effective, user-friendly tool and has 90 percent of the listing inventory," says Dennis Visser, an agent with Cassidy Turley BRE Commercial.
"This is a progressive tool for Carlsbad to provide to potential businesses that are considering relocating to the area," says Visser. "It's also a very efficient way to provide information to existing Carlsbad businesses that are looking to expand, and to out-of-area businesses looking to locate here."
The city sees this service as a way to help fill some of our vacant office and industrial space. The recession hit right after thousands of square feet of new space went on the Carlsbad market, leaving much of it vacant. Some of those unoccupied properties make up the most modern, advanced facilities in the county, and they're just waiting for tenants.
The site has an added bonus: It lists businesses and commercial properties for sale, so an investor can search potential opportunities as well. So if you're looking to buy a hotel, you can log on and search.
We like this function because it can attract investment from outside the area.
So no matter where you are, whether on Palomar Airport Road or in Salt Lake City, if you're looking for business property, just start on the city website. It can be your first stop in finding your new business home.
