The Carlsbad Library and Arts Foundation will present its sixth annual Castles of Carlsbad 2009 Spring Home Tour from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 16
The presenting sponsor is Furnishings 4 Less. During the popular, self-guided tour, up to 1,000 ticket holders will stroll through the interiors and grounds of six unique homes located throughout Carlsbad.
“There is something for everyone to love on this tour, the homes are amazing,” promises Event Chair Sandy Golnick.
Attendees will enjoy refreshments on the lawn at Villa La Costa, a private, resort-style home with an intriguing history that tour docents will be sharing. Other homes on the tour include a charming Hawaiian-style bungalow, a hilltop house with stunning views of a canyon and the ocean, a European-style house with several gardens and an entertainer's dream that features a tropical backyard with a large fireplace, bar, cooking area, huge Koi tank and a brilliant red, Italian glass mosaic wall that encloses a large flat screen TV.
Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at each house. The raffles will feature six Carlsbad-themed gift baskets filled with luxury items that include thousands of dollars worth of stays at local resorts, golf packages, gourmet dinners, elegant spa visits and more.
“Guests can also relax with refreshments throughout the day in the mini-theatre tent where trustees of the foundation will be giving a sneak preview of their new DVD, which explains how the Carlsbad City Library Learning Center impacts individuals, families and the community,” said Gina McBride, vice-president of the foundation.
The spacious new learning center opened in August 2008 after being housed in various small facilities around town since the program started in 1984. The center serves the various literacy needs for those of all ages, individuals and families.
The foundation is conducting a campaign to provide major funding for the center and has started speaking engagements at corporations, civic clubs and private groups to show the DVD and share the story of the learning center with the community.
Home tour tickets are $30; if you buy five, you get one free. Each ticket contains a tour map, along with descriptions of each home.
The net proceeds from the tour will benefit the foundation's mission to provide funding for the library, and arts facilities and programs, which include the learning center.
Tickets are available at Carlsbad City Library, 1775 Dove Lane; Georgina Cole Library, 1250 Carlsbad Village Drive and Armstrong's Garden Center at the Flower Fields, 5702 Paseo del Norte. Home tour tickets also are available online at www.castlesofcarlsbad.com.
