Ted Owen, president and CEO of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, recently received the Pursuit of Excellence in Transportation Award from the San Diego chapter of Advancing Women in Transportation.
He was presented with the award at the annual Women's Transportation Seminar, or WTS, in San Diego.
Owen is a founding member and president of the Transit Alliance for a Better North County. The nonprofit organization has more than 200 members representing major employers, educational facilities, business associations, medical centers, public agencies, senior associations, commuters, students and elected officials.
The organization's membership has grown considerably under Owen's leadership. The transit alliance and Owen are committed to improving the mobility of residents and designing a transit system that supports a dynamic community. As the transit alliance's chief spokesman, Owen makes numerous presentations to city councils and civic organizations in support of public transit.
He has received special recognition for his leadership from several groups, including the County of San Diego, National Association of Women Business Owners, American Chamber of Commerce Executives Association, Rotary International and Greater San Diego Chamber of Commerce.
“Owen represents the ideals of WTS through his support of transportation and his desire to create an improved transportation system,” said a WTS spokesperson. “He is a role model for citizens wishing to be involved in their communities and has been instrumental in the transit alliance's early success.”
