The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce's new Small Business Success Guide will provide a one-stop comprehensive resource of information that will be useful at any company's stage of development.
The guide will be used by start-up companies, established businesses that are growing and companies that need access to reference materials, Web sites, how-to information, financial guidance, marketing information, real estate guidance, demographics and accounting assistance. It will cover subjects like starting a business, licenses and permits, insurance, taxes and small business resources.
Ted Owen, president and CEO of the chamber, said there is need for the guide due to the fact that there are more than 26 million small businesses nationwide, but only 44 percent of them remain in business after four years.
“We have found that there are a number of resources available for small businesses, but there is no central location where these hundreds of Web sites, resources and organizations can be found,” Owen said. “The guide will be a book of easily accessible lists and a tutorial on how to run a business in the 21st century.”
The chamber received a $25,000 grant from the County of San Diego to assist with the development and distribution of the guide. Once published, the guide will be mailed to 25,000 companies in San Diego County, including all new businesses that obtain a business license in the county, all of the chamber's members and all of the businesses that utilize the counseling services in the chamber's Small Business Success Center.
Sponsorship packages and advertising opportunities are still available in the educational piece. Those who buy a full-page advertisement will get to write a full-page informational article that also will run in the guide.
