Meeting every first Tuesday morning, the Carlsbad Chamber Business Resource Committee (BRC) vigorously plans and implements various programs and activities throughout every month. Don Sando is the chairman and Bob Clark is the co-chair.
The mission of the committee is “To promote positive business relationships for chamber members by creating opportunities for increased visibility and referrals, while advocating sound business skills, practices and values.”
The committee programs include the popular monthly First Friday Breakfast, which is an ongoing networking event. At each breakfast, approximately 125 people show up regularly to hear great speakers and to mingle and network with other members, visitors and guests. Selected members are given the opportunity to speak to the entire group. Each table of eight seated for breakfast has a Table Facilitator trained by members of the BRC. The job of the facilitator is to make certain that everyone at the table has ample opportunity to speak more than once and tell the others what he or she does for fun as well as profit. Productive relationships are built in this manner. Meanwhile, all present are free to roam and network throughout the entire audience before and after the formal meeting.
The committee has two sub-committees concentrating on small business ventures and medium-to-large business establishments.
The small business group has recently launched an exciting new program that implements small peer support groups called “Pathways to Success.” Each Pathway group is effectively a virtual board of directors. Every peer group is a team of ten non-competitive like-size, like-style business owners. These entrepreneurs engage in brainstorming, and they swap business issues and problem-solving techniques in confidence. The group itself is facilitated by seasoned, successful business owners, and is structured to assure accountability. Experts in specific arenas of business are brought in from time to time to speak. It is the chamber's purpose to supply resources to these support groups to help them manage and grow their businesses. New teams are being formed at this time. Inquiries are welcome.
