In last month's edition of the Carlsbad Business Journal, I shared the findings from the 2005-06 analysis of the retail condition and development opportunities for the Carlsbad Village.
The report indicated that the Village has been relatively healthy from a retail perspective in the past few years. While we do not know what will happen in the current economy, our hope is that the retail environment in the Village will remain strong and entrepreneurs will consider the area for their next business venture.
The city is recruiting business entrepreneurs for the Village. To assist with this, the Housing and Redevelopment Department is hosting a workshop at 8:30 a.m. June 12 at the Carlsbad Village Theater, 2822 State St.
We will share information from a regulatory perspective on starting a business in the Village. Also, we have asked some existing businesses to share their success stories and other organizations, like the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce and Carlsbad Village Improvement Partnership, to share information on the business development resources they have available for new or growing companies.
We know that many of the most successful and innovative businesses today in historic downtowns are driven by owners with strong entrepreneurial skills. We are looking for entrepreneurs with a vision who are willing to craft unique businesses that fit Carlsbad's specific market opportunities.
If you are considering opening a new business or expanding an existing successful business in the Village, we invite you to the June 12 business development workshop.
For more information about the how-to workshop, call the Housing and Redevelopment Department at (760) 434-2815. For more information about the Village, visit www.carlsbadca.gov/housing.
Next time you're in the area, check out the city's new street banners on Carlsbad Village Drive, Carlsbad Boulevard and several other streets within the Village. We are very excited about the new look!
