The goal of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce's Education Committee is to enhance the educational experiences in Carlsbad schools by linking academics, businesses and the community.
The committee strives to promote real world learning, support partnerships and encourage and celebrate educational excellence in our schools. We believe all of our schools are world-class, and this contributes to our vibrant community.
An important upcoming event for the committee is the Outstanding Educational Program Awards Dinner, which will take place at 6 p.m. May 2 at the La Costa Resort and Spa. The night is a highlight for the community because it acknowledges the fantastic work of programs nominated in four categories, including Adopted or Adapted, Entrepreneurial, Innovative and Science.
Sixteen program finalists vie for top honors to be awarded from our sponsors: LEGOLAND California, Invitrogen, Sylvan Learning, RAM Enterprises International, the Gemological Institute of America, CDS Printing and the La Costa Resort and Spa. In addition, each school's teacher of the year will be recognized.
Businesses and individuals are encouraged to purchase seats for this event and to invite a teacher in appreciation for all that they do for our students.
Other important initiatives of the committee include a school and business partnership through Carlsbad High School's academies, Junior Achievement's Biz Town, City Stuff and Business Matters programs. Our active committee welcomes new members from the business and educational communities.
The committee meets from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. on the fourth Friday of each month during the school year at the Carlsbad Chamber, 5934 Priestly Drive, Carlsbad. For more information about the committee and its programs, call Lisa Manemann at the chamber at (760) 931-8400.
