One of the most significant Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce networking events is the First Friday Breakfast hosted by the chamber's Business Resource Committee, or BRC.
The breakfast keeps with the BRC's mission to “promote positive business relationships for chamber members by creating opportunities for increased visibility and referrals, while advocating sound business skills, practices and values.”
The First Friday Breakfast takes place from 7 to 9 a.m. on the first Friday of each month at Windmill Banquet & Catering, the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa or the Hilton Garden Inn Carlsbad Beach, depending on availability. Attendance often surpasses 100 people, who come to hear a featured speaker and take advantage of the unique networking opportunity led at each table by a BRC-trained facilitator.
The breakfast also features merchant-sponsored Table Top Exhibits, as well as Soap Box Presentations from up to three chamber members who describe their business for two minutes.
Additional networking opportunities are available to those who sign up for a Dutch-treat Table for 8 breakfast or lunch hosted by a BRC-trained chamber member and by exchanging business cards through the Coffee Break Bag, which is a random selection process that sets you up for coffee at a future time with another chamber member.
The BRC has been instrumental in revitalizing the chamber's Speakers Bureau, creating a new member follow-up system and training members how to do 17-second commercials and be effective table facilitators.
The committee chair is Lee Sterling of Sterling Stone Realty. Its staff liaison is Bev Jorgensen, the chamber's vice president of corporate & member relations.
The BRC meets at 7:30 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the chamber, 5934 Priestly Drive. Chamber members are invited to attend the meetings, which are lively, educational and fun, and provide additional opportunities to network and exchange ideas.
