Rethink energy. It sounds simple enough, but oftentimes consumers need some expert advice on the subject, which is where GreenHouse comes in.
The company is a one-stop-shop for all green building products and services. GreenHouse thoroughly researches and evaluates products, choosing only those that adhere to its high standards for effectiveness, energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, value and profitability.
“We provide products and services that improve the functionality of a home and boost efficiency, reducing energy costs by up to 50 percent for the average homeowner,” said Chris Ursitti, CEO of GreenHouse. “With energy costs soaring, GreenHouse offers an effective solution to control energy bills and save money, while also promoting a sustainable lifestyle.”
GreenHouse also distributes the E-Fuel MicroFueler, a portable ethanol micro-refinery fuel system for consumer use. It is the first home ethanol system that makes fueling up affordable and sustainable, and is also the first at-home self-service pump.
GreenHouse recently teamed-up with a local brewery to convert spent beer yeast into ethanol fuel. The brewery provides 28 tons of spent beer yeast per week, which GreenHouse collects and distributes to its customers throughout the state who can safely and efficiently distill their own ethanol with the MicroFueler.
“Alleviating pressure from landfills, the re-using of brewery waste to create fuel for cars will help in the development of a cleaner and more sustainable region,” Ursitti said.
The Carlsbad Business Journal sat down with Ursitti to learn more about the innovative company.
CBJ: When and why was GreenHouse established?
Ursitti: In 2007 due to the growing demand for green products and services that are not only eco-friendly, but also cost-effective. After the wildfires of 2003 and 2007, there was a need for rebuilding services for more than 5,000 homes in the area, and many of our clients wanted to rebuild green. From its inception, GreenHouse has been committed to being and building green, which is good for the environment and also good for the homeowner's bottom line. The release of the MicroFueler enables consumers to reduce their carbon footprint while taking control of their fuel costs.
CBJ: What is the company's mission?
Ursitti: To provide durable, long-lasting, eco-healthy products and sustainable systems to our customers, primarily in the single-family housing retrofit market.
CBJ: What products does GreenHouse offer?
Ursitti: Fire retardant, solar hot water systems, dual pane windows, CoolWall, Green Fiber, Energy Star appliances and the MicroFueler. The appliance-sized units are pump stations and ethanol distillers that can be installed at residences by our distribution team. Organic fuel is produced using carbohydrate waste products found abundantly in brewery waste, algae and cellulose, no corn or food-based products, and using state-of-the-art semiconductor technology.
CBJ: What is unique about the company?
Ursitti: We are the only exclusively green, full-service home remodeling specialist in this area. We are able to provide businesses and homeowners with the products, services and expertise they need to effectively cut the cost of their energy bills, green their home and live sustainably. In addition, we are the sole distributor of the E-Fuel MicroFueler for Southern California and Arizona, which safely transforms organic waste into clean burning fuel that is two-thirds the cost of regular gasoline.
CBJ: What sustainable practices does GreenHouse adhere to?
Ursitti: Our business practices are 100 percent green. We recycle every product we can, from concrete to cardboard, and donate any usable items to charity. All of our vehicles, both personal and commercial, are powered by E-Fuel100.
CBJ: What do you see for the future of GreenHouse?
Ursitti: We hope to change our world one home at a time. Also, we are in the process of finalizing plans for a major showroom and installation facility here in San Diego County that will provide ready access to both the fueling and retrofitting offerings. We plan to expand to multiple locations in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange counties, as well as Arizona, by the end of 2010.
