Conrad "Skip" Hammann, PE has been appointed to the position of City Engineer/Deputy Public Works Director, Engineering Services. His primary responsibilities include overseeing the City's five engineering divisions: Traffic, Planning and Programs, Construction Management and Inspection, Development Services and Design.
Hammann joined the City in 2000. Prior to this promotion, he served as Senior Engineer in the development services division and as Deputy City Engineer in charge of construction management and inspection. He fills a spot vacated by former Deputy Public Works Director Glenn Pruim, who was appointed to Public Works Director in January of this year.
Pruim praises Hammann as a dedicated employee who offers "a tremendous background in both private and public sector engineering." Pruim says, "Skip's solid understanding of engineering issues and decisive, practical, decision-making abilities make him an ideal choice for this key position."
Pruim citied Hammann's thorough, proactive response to landslides last year as indicative of his results-oriented approach.
Hammann received his formal education at West Virginia University. He has garnered 20 years of wide-ranging engineering experience. After serving as president of two private engineering firms, he worked for the cities of Solana Beach and Oceanside before joining Carlsbad. Hammann, a Carlsbad resident, is also a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Public Works Association.
