How to avoid being sued by employees will be the topic of the chamber's First Friday Breakfast next month.
The featured speaker will be Lou Storrow, a business and employment attorney based in Carlsbad who is chairman of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce board of directors. Storrow has advised and represented clients in business and employment matters since 1988.
Storrow is a past president of the North County Personnel Association and has presented legal education programs for lawyers and human resource managers. He is active in the North County Bar Association and is a delegate to the State Bar Conference of Delegates.
Storrow has appeared on radio and television. He also has hosted “Lawyers on the Line,” a monthly call-in program on KOCT-TV Oceanside.
During the First Friday Breakfast, Storrow will teach you six ways to avoid being sued by employees.
It's been reported that one out of four private employers has been sued by employees. What steps can you take to stay out of such legal disputes?
Does your company encourage complaints? Would you know if an employee was about to sue you? Are your managers trained to avoid liability? What does your handbook say about discrimination and harassment? Do you even need a handbook?
First Friday Breakfast is the chamber's premiere networking and business promotional event, and one of the most regularly attended monthly programs. The breakfast will be from 7 to 9 a.m. April 4 at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa, 5480 Grand Pacific Drive, Carlsbad 92008. Tickets for the event are $30 for chamber members and $40 for prospective members registered by March 28. After March 28, and at the door, tickets are $50. At the door, seating is not guaranteed and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Tabletop exhibits or Soapbox presentations are available to promote your business for $70 each, which includes one breakfast, and must be reserved in advance by calling Bev Jorgensen, the chamber's director of corporate relations and member services, at (760) 931-8400.
