Debbie Fountain, the city of Carlsbad's housing and redevelopment director, was recently awarded the San Diego Housing Federation's John Craven Memorial Award.
Fountain received the award for her exceptional contribution to affordable housing and community development during the past year.
“This award belongs to all of the dedicated city staff who work so hard every day to fulfill our City Council's commitment to ensuring a great quality of life for all Carlsbad residents,” Fountain said. “I am proud to share this honor with them.”
For 11 years, Fountain has been directly involved in the development and implementation of one of the country's most successful inclusionary housing programs, which has provided more than 2,000 affordable units.
She also has overseen more than $27 million in city assistance in support of Carlsbad housing projects.
Each year, the John Craven Memorial Award recognizes a public employee who has taken risks and gone above and beyond the call of duty to assist affordable housing developers.
The federation is a coalition of affordable housing developers, advocates and other organizations that promote the creation of quality affordable housing focused on lower income families and people in need.
