Whether crafting, selling, buying or financing them; jewels are an age-old industry with a sparkling future. In accordance with that philosophy, the Gemological Institute of America held a career fair last month at their headquarters, located in Carlsbad.
Jewelers, gemologists and career-seeking individuals all came together for the opportunity to see and be seen. Nearly 40 reputable jewelry companies showed, whose names included: Tiffany & Co., De Beers, Robbins Brothers and Zales. Even the Home Shopping Work was on the guest list looking to find a prospect to be a host of their show.

Kathryn Kimmel, the event chairwoman, believes a career in jewelry is an appealing option because it is ever-lucrative. "There's always people getting married, there are always milestones in people's lives and they tend to be celebrated by jewelry," Kimmel said. With opportunities worldwide and a potential six-figure income, even at a young age, hopeful students and graduates submitted resumes and talked up representatives from respective companies at the career bazaar.

Along with career shopping, the event also offered a look at the institute's permanent museum collection; a collection that holds a replica of the famous multi-million dollar Victoria Secret jeweled bra.
