Drivers may have noticed a little extra color on their trip down Carlsbad Village Drive.
The city of Carlsbad has expanded accessibility to its Arts in Public Places program by installing several permanent and temporary sculptures near the Georgina Cole Library. The positioning of the works in one location is intended to make it easier for residents to enjoy the city's sculpture collection.
City staff also hopes the works will attract new visitors to the city's Sculpture Garden, which is in the backyard of the Cultural Arts Office at 2955 Elmwood St. Self-guided walking tour hand-outs are available at Georgina Cole Library, 1250 Carlsbad Village Drive.
The works include:
• Contemplation by T.J. Dixon; on permanent display.
• Marmalade Dragonfly by Benbow Bullock; on display through April.
• Tree with Bird by Italo Scanga; on permanent display.
• Untitled by Italo Scanga; on permanent display.
• Here I Come: Ready or Not! By Fritzie Urquhart; multiple works on display through April.
The Cultural Arts Office is committed to making the arts accessible to all in the Carlsbad community. The city believes the arts are an important part of lifelong learning and is dedicated to bringing excellence to the Carlsbad arts experience.
