According to Stanford University, 80 percent of our business success is due to our interpersonal competencies.
Today, more than ever, if you are going to succeed in business, it is paramount to understand that it is not what you know, but your ability to communicate it. Individuals who can effectively communicate their ideas and knowledge also are looked upon as leaders, which is critical in today's world as we are experiencing a leadership dearth.
Learn how you can give yourself an edge in business, just like Harvey Mackay, Peter Coors, Debbie Fields and Paul Oreffice did, by attending the Carlsbad Chamber's First Friday Breakfast next month. The featured speaker will be Jana Barnhill, who last August was elected Toastmasters International President.
She is only the fourth woman to serve as the top officer of the world's leading organization devoted to the development of communication and leadership skills.
Barnhill is a speaker and trainer through LIVE Speaker Inc., a company she owns with her husband. She conducts seminars throughout the country on management topics, including team building, managing change, personality traits and communication and leadership.
During the First Friday Breakfast, Barnhill will teach you how to:
• Set yourself apart from your competition, internal and external.
• Strengthen both workplace and personal relationships.
• Increase customer/client satisfaction.
• Keep the best people working for you.
First Friday Breakfast is the chamber's premiere networking and business promotional event, and one of the most regularly attended monthly programs. The breakfast will be from 7 to 9 a.m. Feb. 6 at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa, 5480 Grand Pacific Drive, Carlsbad, 92008.
Tickets for the event are $30 for chamber members and $50 for prospective members registered by Jan. 30. After Jan. 30, and at the door, tickets are $55. At the door, seating is not guaranteed and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Tabletop exhibits or Soapbox presentations are available to promote your business for $70 each, which includes one breakfast, and must be reserved in advance by calling Bev Jorgensen, the chamber's director of corporate relations and member services, at (760) 931-8400.
