Last year, the Carlsbad City Council asked Housing and Neighborhood Services to develop and host new family-friendly activities in the Village. Our first effort to address the Council's request was to host a family-centered, old-fashioned fun Halloween Event. It was a huge success thanks to all the other City Departments that pitched in and our enthusiastic community partners like the Carlsbad Education Foundation, the Boys and Girls Club, the Carlsbad Village Association and New Village Arts. Our next effort will focus on people and cultural enrichment, and we are as excited about this event as we were about the Halloween event.
You are invited to Experience the World in the Village! On Saturday, March 19, 2011 from 1 to 5p.m., the Department of Housing and Neighborhood Services together with other city departments, a number of Village businesses and various community partners will host a fun and safe community event in the Carlsbad Village for the entire family. The event will celebrate world cultures through visual performances, hands-on art, food, shopping, games and story-telling. It will be a spring time event in the Village to celebrate people and world culture through fun family-centered activities.
There will be live dance and music performances by local performers, including student groups from Carlsbad schools. The City's Art and Library Department will sponsor hands-on art projects and share some story-telling that will capture the essence of various cultures. Children will enjoy a fun zone with bounce houses and slides to burn some afternoon energy. Local, Village businesses will be showcased for shopping opportunities and future gift ideas. The Village offers a wide variety of world cuisine dining opportunities, including Mexican, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, French, Mediterranean and others, which will tempt all who come to either dine for lunch or dinner on this celebration day.
This will be another fantastic event that will demonstrate the continuing power of partnerships and community participation. Come, be a part of the fun!
