Halloween is just around the corner, and the Carlsbad Department of Housing and Neighborhood Services is working with partner groups to host a big family-friendly party in the Village area on Saturday, October 30, 2010 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Please save the date and plan on bringing your family to the Village for a little fun while we scare up some ghosts of Halloweens past.
Village businesses, various service groups and city departments will be providing fun activities for all to enjoy, and with no street closures. There will be activities at the Oak Yard, the mid-block public parking lot on State Street (south of Carlsbad Village Drive), the corner lot on State Street and Carlsbad Village Drive, the public parking lot on the corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, the mid-block Roosevelt Street public parking lot (north of Carlsbad Village Drive) as well as at various business locations throughout the Village.
The goal is to encourage residents to visit the Village, experience the variety of businesses, and have a little fun to celebrate Halloween. The list of fun activities include:
• Halloween-themed carnival games and jump houses
• Halloween costume contest for pets and people
• Themed storefront decorating contest
• Safe trick or treat at local businesses
• Outdoor Halloween movie and burgers
• Safe costume checks and antique fire
engine display
• Live make-up demonstrations (fake blood, warts, etc.)
• Music and other entertainment
• Cotton candy and other food
• Farmer's market with themed activities
• Blanket drive or other philanthropic project
Join us in the Village October 30 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.. Wear a costume all day. Host a themed activity. Provide candy for the trick or treaters. Volunteer to help, or, just come and enjoy the Halloween fun! The more participation, the better. Let us know if you plan to do anything special in the Village for this celebration.
