On July 30, more than 1,000 children, young and old, attended the Acura Classic Kids' Day at La Costa Resort where Fresh Start held its First Annual Scooper Bowl. Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream generously donated the ice cream and supplies for the all-you-can-eat festival, which raised $1,200 for Fresh Start Surgical Gifts.
Kids slurped up classic vanilla, french silk and mint chocolate chip flavors doused in caramel sauce with, of course, a cherry on top. The sun was blazing and several sticky, whipped-cream-covered kids ate until their bellies ached.
Volunteer scoopers from local high schools, Starbucks of Encinitas, and Old Navy of Temecula stood elbow deep in ice cream and helped spread awareness of Fresh Start's mission.
