The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is set to host its highly anticipated gem and jewelry industry's largest recruiting event. This year, the career fair will be held in two venues. The first fair will take place in New York City on Friday, July 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The second follows closely behind and will be held on September 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at its world headquarters here in Carlsbad.
2006 will mark GIA's 16th year of hosting a career fair specifically tailored to the gem and jewelry industry. Last year, GIA hosted record-attendance events in both the New York and Carlsbad locations, where more than 2,000 job seekers and close to 100 companies took part.

Employers who participate include some of the finest firms in the industry. Representatives from Tiffany & Co., Saks Fifth Avenue, Fortunoff Fine Jewelers, Zale Corp., and Christie's have previously recruited at the event.

Job seekers at GIA's Jewelry Career Fair acquire contacts, career development information, and industry knowledge through seminars, career coaching sessions, workshops, and r?sum? reviews. Some of the industry's most respected leaders and experts offer their experience and wisdom to help people define their career goals and make their current skills and experience relevant to gem and jewelry employers.

GIA continues to hear reports from those who found the career of their dreams at the event.

"The GIA Career Fair is like no other event in the industry," said Kathryn Kimmel, GIA vice president of Marketing and Public Relations. "If you're looking to enter the fine jewelry market, this is the place to start."

Employers say the Career Fair offers a targeted, concentrated audience of highly trained potential employees who are passionate about gems and jewelry. Companies looking for just the right employee will find both recent GIA graduates and seasoned professionals who are hoping to meet that right employer.

"It's not easy finding the right person for the job, especially in the jewelry industry," said Kimmel. "Whether you have an opening in sales, management, customer support, manufacturing, or are looking for fresh new designer talent, you'll find it all at Career Fair."
