The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that it has developed a new committee that will focus on sustainability.
Gary Hill, director of community development for the Gemological Institute of America, will serve as chairman of the Sustainability Committee. Paul Thompson, executive director of the BetterWorld Together Foundation, will serve as co-chair.
Chamber members with an interest in the environment are invited to join the committee.
The committee will focus on the following:
• Education and discussions about the social and human side of sustainability for Carlsbad.
• The development of a Green Certificate that can be issued by the chamber to local businesses that meet specific requirements.
• Educating the chamber's board of directors, staff, committees and members, as well as the larger government and business community, about sustainability.
• Creating and planning a Green Summit that will take place in 2009.
