If you are interested in learning about legislation, discussing ballot measures and working with elected officials and their representatives, then the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce's Government Affairs Committee is for you.
The committee helps shape public policy. Its mission is to represent the interests of the business community in local, state and federal legislative issues and to communicate those interests to chamber members, the community and elected officials.
Led by Joe Charest of Katz and Associates, the committee meets from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month at the chamber, 5934 Priestly Drive, Carlsbad.
The group discusses current legislation at both the federal and state level. The committee members also are very active in following issues pertaining to the county of San Diego and city of Carlsbad.
“The great thing about the government affairs committee is that there is always something going on in the government,” said Michael Babowal, the chamber's director of government affairs. “It's also a great opportunity for members to meet out elected officials' local staff. We have staffers from Congressman Brian Bilbray, Senator Mark Wyland, Assemblyman Martin Garrick, Supervisor Bill Horn and the city of Carlsbad who attend each meeting and give an update about what each is working on.”
For more information about the government affairs committee or to join, e-mail Babowal at [email protected] or call him at (760) 931-8400, ext. 108.
