Henry's Farmers Market, known for fresh produce and natural foods in San Diego County for more than 60 years, recently announced the opening of an all-new prototype store in Carlsbad on March 1. The Carlsbad store will be unlike anything San Diegans have seen before from Henry's, a significantly larger store (the biggest Henry's ever) with an exciting new farmers market design theme, expanded departments and even greater product selection.
"You may think you know Henry's, but we invite you to 're-discover' this local legend," said Al Bercuson, Director of Operations for Henry's Farmers Market. "The Carlsbad store gives shoppers an even greater reason to love Henry's."
All departments in the 30,000-square-foot store have been expanded. Shoppers will also find a greater selection of organic produce; a deli island with salad, soup and sandwich bars; hot-food case; sushi case; coffee wagon and muffin cart; large bulk foods department; service bakery; large beer and wine selection; and an outdoor seating area. An extensive demonstration area is also included for upcoming cooking presentations and healthy living lectures within the store.
Henry's stores have been known for their farm-fresh produce, high quality vitamins and supplements, and great-tasting, all-natural food, including bulk grains, nuts and candy, whole grain sprouted breads, fresh meats and seafood, deli offerings and a wide variety of grocery products.
The new Henry's store design also features an expanded in-house bakery where customers will enjoy the aromas and flavors of fresh-baked breads, all-natural muffins, bursting fresh-fruit pies and other baked items. Staffed with trained butchers, the store's full-service fresh meat and seafood counters will offer fresh fish delivered daily and several varieties of fresh, all-natural pork, poultry, beef, lamb and ready-to-cook entrees for maximum convenience.
The roots of Henry's Farmers Market were established in 1943 when the Boney Family bought a truckload of peaches and sold them on a street corner in San Diego. In 1999, Wild Oats Markets Inc. acquired Henry's Farmers Market from the Boney Family and today continues their tradition of exceptional quality, value and service. With the addition of the Carlsbad store, the Henry's family includes 28 stores in Southern California and Arizona.
Henry's is a family of friendly, authentic farmers market stores that offer a shopping experience reminiscent of produce stands and neighborhood butchers of the 1950s. Based on extensive customer research, the store features an exciting new design that captures the authenticity of the turn-of-the-century farmers market. Hand-painted wood signs and tongue-and-groove fir paneling, the store finishes, which are made from recycled tin and real brick work, complement the abundant displays of farm-fresh produce.
The Henry's Farmers Market product selection process is designed to offer customers the highest quality, freshest, all-natural products at competitive prices. The 100 full- and part-time Carlsbad Henry's employees are being trained to have in-depth knowledge about the store's products to offer customers a shopping experience that is not only fun and friendly, but also educational.
Henry's Farmers Market was named San Diego's best health food store for seven consecutive years by the Union-Tribune's San Diego's Best Reader's Poll. Henry's Farmers Market was also named runner-up in the best vitamin category. The heart of Henry's is its produce department. With nearly 5,200 square feet of devoted space, Henry's Carlsbad offers more than 350 farm-fresh conventional and organic produce varieties with an emphasis on California-grown items.
The community received a sneak preview of the store during a festive block party on February 28. The block party, held in the store's parking lot, featured music, a vast array of free great-tasting food samples, kids' carnival games and prizes, as well as a chance to be the first to shop the brand new store.
The store is located in Los Coches Village at 3243 Camino de los Coches Road in Carlsbad. Doors officially open to the public on Wednesday, March 1 at 8:00 a.m.
