Hofman Planning and Engineering (HPE) celebrates its 25th anniversary this year as a land use planning and civil engineering consulting group. Founded in 1985 by Bill Hofman, the company has had a hand in the development of much of the Carlsbad landscape. With the knowledge of the city of Carlsbad's planning process, garnered from his years as principal planner for the City of Carlsbad, Hofman saw a niche that he could fill by representing developers who wanted to do business in Carlsbad.
Some of the major clients HPE has represented in Carlsbad over the years include Daon Corporation, Fieldstone, McKellar Development, Lennar Communities, Kaufman and Broad, Costco and Grand Pacific Resorts. Current clients include Legoland, Westfield, Sudberry, Lowes Home Improvement, NRG, Wavecrest, Army and Navy Academy, San Diego Port Authority and Poseidon Resources.
Following its success in the Carlsbad market, HPE expanded to other markets, doing work throughout southern California and the states of Idaho, Utah and Arizona. Broadening its services to developers even further, HPE decided to add civil engineering to its repertoire four years ago.
Despite the recent economic downturn, HPE is one of the fortunate few companies in the real estate industry in San Diego County that has not had to lay off any of its employees. Hofman attributes the company's success to an outstanding staff which always puts its clients' interest first. “We have had the good fortune to hire quality people who strive to care for our clients while ensuring that developments are well planned and in harmony with the community's goals,” he said.
Hofman asserts that HPE will continue to be innovative and creative in dealing with the challenges facing the real estate industry. The company is committed to sustainable, green development and strives to guide its clients in that direction.
