For Ash Ibrahim, mortgage lending is more than money processing, it is a way to serve others and help families achieve their dreams. Ibrahim, the owner of Sunset Coast Capitol, a real estate and lending business, prides himself on the personal attention and customer service offered at his Carlsbad offices.
"For years I have heard the term 'loan officer' or 'mortgage consultant,' and to this day I am not quite sure what a loan office is or what it really means," Ibrahim said. "In my opinion, this business requires people who manage relationships and keep those relationships."
Founded in 2004, Sunset Coast is a multi-faceted company, offering customers domestic and international loans, local real estate through its Sunset Coast Homes division and catering to the Hispanic community through its Hispanic division.
Although the company is fairly new, Ibrahim is a veteran in the world of mortgage lending.
A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, his first job was at a thrift and loan store.
"It was a really good position. Once I got into it I couldn't stop," Ibrahim said.
The customer interaction and opportunity to help were appealing to Ibrahim.
In subsequent years, he became partner in multiple lending companies that ultimately dissolved. In 2004, he decided to start his own company, and Sunset Coast Capitol was born.
"I said, 'I'm not going to partner up with anybody anymore, I'm going to start my own business based on my own fundamentals and philosophy on how this business should be run," Ibrahim said.
Relying on good relationships and customer satisfaction, Ibrahim attracted clients and employees to his unique company.
"His vision, his heart, his ability to outreach to the community and that being a priority in such an early stage in this company, to me it just spoke volumes and was right on track with the way that I do business and the way that I treat clients," said Carrie Sorrento, relationship development manager who joined Sunset Coast in 2005.
Although it is one of many lending companies in North County, Sunset Coast differentiates itself by employing an educated and honest staff, Ibrahim said.
"The atmosphere at Sunset Coast Capitol is very family oriented, they are very close and they pride themselves on their professionalism," said Jill Campos, of San Diego, who has worked with the company.
In addition to serving clients, Ibrahim focuses on serving the community. He is a board member for the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Carlsbad.
"(My wife, Jacqui, and I) just believe that it's a duty to be able to serve your community in any way possible, we look at it as a requirement," Ibrahim said.
In his time away from the company, Ibrahim is an avid sports fisherman and aspiring chef and landscaper.
Looking towards the future, Ibrahim is eager to build upon Sunste Coast's success.
"We don't want to be the biggest, but we do want to be the best," Ibrahim said.
