Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice President and COO Toni Padron with Willeen Hasler at the chamber volunteer recognition ceremony in 2007.
The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce is saddened to announce the passing of Willeen H. Hasler, a former chamber employee who died Aug. 18 in Oceanside after a brief illness. She was 82 years old.
Hasler, who retired from her job at the Chamber in 2002, organized several of our events, trade shows, and installation dinners. She continued her involvement with the Chamber after her retirement, running the chamber's 17-second workshop to teach members how to promote themselves and their businesses efficiently.
She also volunteered as a SCORE counselor for Small Businesses and Director of Women's Business conferences. She was a member of the year in 2000 and 2001 and was honored with a Lifetime Commitment to Service award in 2007.
She served on the Board of Directors and was a member of several committees, including the Business Resource Committee, and volunteered for every special event. She was also an integral part of the First Friday program from the beginning and was a table facilitator, a timer and served wherever a spot needed to be filled in. She spent countless hours as a volunteer.
Hasler was known for her parliamentary procedures and Robert's Rules of Order, and owned her own business for Home Owner Association meeting minutes, laws, Robert's Rules of order, and inspector of elections.
According to her obituary, Hasler was born in Missouri but lived most of her life in California.
She was always very involved in business and teaching with various organizations. She began as a secretary and office manager for Santa Paula High School and Assistant to the Ventura Community College President.
Willeen enjoyed teaching business-related classes at MiraCosta and Palomar Community colleges.
A memorial service was scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2 at the First Presbyterian Church of Oceanside, 2001 S. El Camino Real. Donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Memorial Fund in Willeen's honor.
She is survived by her son, Farrel Johnson of Oceanside; daughter, Marleen and Dave Wight of Oceanside; sister, Jane Hobbs of Oregon; and brother, Sid Hastings of Missouri; and numerous other family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Hasler.
The Chamber wishes to express its sincerest condolences to her family.
