Since opening in 2003, Tommy V's has gained a loyal following of locals who are enamored by the steakhouse's combination of cosmopolitan style and timeless sophistication.
The scrumptious cuisine prepared by Executive Chef Abner Constantino leaves patrons no choice but to hastily return for yet another delicious meal. Constantino recently joined the Tommy V's team, but he's already revamped the restaurant's spectacular menu.
Constantino, who is originally from Puerto Rico, specializes in Italian, French and Caribbean cuisine. His more than 20 year career includes a five year stint as the personal chef to Gloria Estefan.
Each week, Constantino offers different French, Italian, Mediterranean or Caribbean specials at Tommy V's. He also will prepare anything customers request as long as he has proper notice.
“The specialties allow our customers to expand their choices and introduces them to cuisine from around the world,” Constantino said. “People have been loving it.”
Besides a classic selection of handpicked slabs of succulent beef, the menu also features fresh seafood, pasta, lamb, chicken, soups, salads and a variety of appetizers. Also available are desserts made in-house, including bananas foster, cr?me brulee and chocolate lava cake.
One of the most popular entrees on the menu is the Filet Mignon Oscar. The juicy filet mignon medallions are topped with asparagus, jumbo lump crab meat and b?arnaise sauce for $38.95.
Another signature item is the Yucca Crusted Chilean Sea Bass served with rock shrimp, tomatoes, garlic and a white wine sauce for $26.95.
But an absolute must-try, even for those who don't typically like raw Ahi, is the Ahi-Poki appetizer. The top seller consists of finely diced Ahi tuna drizzled with a spicy Japanese mustard sauce and garnished with pickled cucumber and ginger atop won-ton crisps for $9.95.
Besides fabulous cuisine, the steakhouse also is known for its lively lounge. In fact, the lounge is so popular among regulars that the restaurant is undergoing renovations to expand the bar area into an outdoor covered patio.
Once the renovations are complete, there will again be live music in the lounge Tuesday through Saturday night, according to General Manager Shawn Bennett. He said the bar has a neighborhood atmosphere because most of the customers are regulars so everyone knows each other.
Happy hour is available in the lounge from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. daily. During that time, certain appetizers, well drinks and select wines and martinis are available for a discounted price.
Bennett said the chardonnay and syrah Tommy V's Owner Tomaso Maggiore produces in Sicily is popular, especially at happy hour when it's $6 a glass. Maggiore's Luxus 5, a harmonic blend of five varietals, also is available at Tommy V's for $14 a glass or $65 a bottle.
Owners Tomaso and Patricia Maggiore also own Tuscany's in Carlsbad, as well as Italian restaurants in Arizona. After dining at Tommy V's, it's easy to understand why the couple has a reputation for keeping the foodies amazed with inspired culinary concepts.
