Carlsbad's 14th Annual Golf Tournament, "the Ultimate Driving Experience," is scheduled to swing into action at 10 a.m. June 27 at La Costa Resort and Spa's world renowned golf course.
A portion of the funds raised by the tournament will go directly to the Chamber's Partners in Education Foundation, a non-profit organization established by the Chamber to assist and award local schools, teachers and students through monetary grants and scholarships.
"I do not have any kids in school here, I just have a passion for education and for the teachers who put in so much time and effort," stated Connie Stevenson, Chair of the Annual Golf Tournament Committee. "The money mainly goes to teacher grants, so by doing this, and by being able to give this back to our teachers, it really enhances the education that we are able to give our students."
The tournament itself offers range of unique opportunities that include everything from a chance to play on the championship course that serves as the home of the Accenture Match Play Championship, to the chance to win a 2005 Mercedes C-230, or a set of his and hers' Harley Davidson Sportsters.
"We've always supported the Chamber," said Mike Weseloh, of Weseloh Chevrolet-Hummer, another generous Carlsbad business that donated a car for a hole-in-one prize. "We think the Chamber does a lot of great things, so we just wanted to support them."
In addition to the morning raffle and live auction, there will also be a silent auction that will begin accepting bids June 1. Bidding for the silent auction is open to anyone; all items can be viewed and bid on at www.carlsbad.org .
The Golf Tournament Committee, which meets Mondays at 4 p.m. at the Carlsbad Chamber, is still in need of golfers, hole/tee sponsors, prize donations, goodie bag items and volunteers. Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to contact Betsy Bracken, Director of Special Events, at the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce at (760) 931-8400.
