Carlsbad Unified School District (CUSD) Superintendent John A. Roach, Ed.D., has been selected from among 60 regional public school district superintendents as Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) San Diego/Imperial Counties Region 18's 2010 Superintendent of the Year. He will be recognized at the ACSA-San Diego County Office of Education School Board Association (SDCSBA) “Honoring Our Own” Gala taking place on April 29, 2010 at the Sheraton Harbor Island in San Diego.
Also being recognized is CUSD School Services Specialist Rosemary Eshelman, who will receive SDCSBA's Staff Member of the Year award.
According to CUSD Board President Mark Tanner, Dr. Roach's contribution is significant. “Since joining Carlsbad Unified in 2004, Dr. Roach has demonstrated stellar character, creativity and leadership. In 2006, Dr. Roach led a community-oriented campaign in which voters overwhelmingly passed the $198 million Prop P bond issue,” he said. “In 2007, he instantaneously mobilized resources to respond to wildfires rampaging throughout North County. He successfully instituted a three-pronged approach to combat the State's 2008 budget crisis and is currently shepherding a process to ensure the college and career readiness of every student.”
Dr. Roach acknowledged the honor by extending his gratitude to his staff and to the students. “I have been gratified to enjoy the wholehearted support of the Board. Together, the trustees, teachers, staff and I strive to make Carlsbad Unified a world-class public school district,” he said. “We work very hard every day to give each of our 10,700 K-12 students the tools, encouragement and high expectations they need to achieve their academic best so they will succeed in school, career and life. I share this Superintendent of the Year honor with our Board, faculty, students, families and our supportive Carlsbad community.”
