How many of you work really hard? Stay late at work? Go in early? Work on the weekends? Don't take vacation? Aren't spending time with your family?
The real questions are: Are you fulfilled? Are you doing everything you want to do? Or do you not have time to do that either?
Take a look at your life and see if the “doing” is getting you what you really want. All of the hard work you're doing might be worth it, but are you enjoying everything you want in life too?
Your mindset and attitude about what you are doing can make a big difference in your level of effectiveness and fulfillment. For example, when you wake up in the morning knowing that you have a busy day ahead of you, the instant conversation is: “I have to get going, I have a lot to do.”
You then dive in and start down the “to do” list. As the day goes by, you have snapped at people because you can't be interrupted and you haven't taken care of yourself, skipping lunch and leaving the office at 8 p.m. only to come home exhausted and with nothing left to give your family.
This is just a pretend scenario right? But, for how many of you does this sound familiar?
We spend so much time “doing” our lives that we forget to just be in them and enjoy the moments that life has to offer. This happens more often than you realize.
How do you get yourself out of this cycle? One of the biggest things you can do is to start realizing who you are being vs. what you are doing.
What do I mean by that? Look at the conversation when you first get up, is it one of anxiety, stress and must do's or is it joy, freedom and abundance?
You get to create your day to be anything you want it to be. Your reaction to what happens throughout the day and how you let it all affect you, is up to you.
Consider starting your day by asking, “What is the bigger purpose for today?” When you can lighten up and have your day be one of fun, adventure and generosity, you can live your life based on your dreams.
You will enjoy your life and be more effective. You can go after your dreams and be fulfilled knowing you are living every moment the way you want.
