Among the must-haves for 2011 are the California and Federal Employment posters which can be purchased at the Carlsbad Chamber and members receive them at a discounted price. Whether you have one employee or 1000, your business MUST post the 16 state and federal 2011 notices where employees can see them every day. If you do not have one posted that is current, your business could face up to $17,000 in fines.
Every employee must have convenient access to information about their rights and responsibilities. You must also provide your employees with the required pamphlets. These include:
• Sexual Harassment (for all new hires and recommended annually for employees and independent contractors),
• Workers' Compensation Rights & Benefits (for all new hires and has been revised for 2011),
• State Disability Insurance (this is for all new hires and any employee taking a leave of absence for a covered reason),
• Paid Family Leave (for all new hires and any employee taking a leave of absence for a covered reason), and
• Unemployment Insurance (for any employee who is terminated, laid off or takes a leave of absence).
Laws can change at any time and your business is required to keep your notices current. New this year, Chamber members can purchase Poster ProtectSM (which is a basically an insurance plan for your purchase) and we will provide you with new posters during the calendar year of 2011 at no extra charge any time there are mandatory updates. You pay no shipping, handling or tax, its all automatic. Please note that Poster ProtectSM does not apply to updates that are not mandatory.
If you would like one convenient kit with all the legally required materials or just want to order the one poster with the new laws, please contact Lundin Noel in member services at 760.931.8400 ext. 230 or e-mail [email protected] to place your order. Other products are available such as HR handbooks for California employers and the California Labor Law Digest; however, you will need to pre-order. Please note, you must place an order now so we can have them available for you by January 1, 2011.
