La Costa Glen Carlsbad announced plans for a major expansion of its award-winning continuing care retirement community on Levante Street in south Carlsbad. Site work for La Costa Glen North is underway and construction on the first residential structure, which will offer 81 apartment-style homes, has begun. La Costa Glen is home to approximately 400 seniors, aged 62 and older. Phase II, with 344 villas and apartment homes, will be built on 30 acres surrounded by open space along the north end of the property.
In addition to the new living space, new amenities to the community include a recreational building with an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, a nine-hole senior golf course, a movie theatre, a clubhouse featuring a grand dining room as well as casual dining facilities, walking trails across from Batiquitos Lagoon wildlife reserve and a greenhouse and outdoor area for personal gardening. These new amenities will be open to all residents of La Costa Glen.
More than 250 seniors are currently waiting to move into the community. The first new residents will begin setting up house during the second quarter of 2006. The entire property is scheduled for completion late summer 2007.
