More than 400 people attended the ninth annual Outstanding Education Program Awards Dinner held May 20 at the landmark La Costa Resort and Spa. The prestigious event, hosted by the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce and its Partners in Education Foundation, recognized 51 exceptional teachers and their outstanding educational programs, as well as 20 schools from four local school districts: Carlsbad Unified, Encinitas Unified, San Marcos Unified, and San Dieguito Union High.
The Chamber created the Outstanding Educational Program Awards Dinner as one of two major fundraising events to support its Partners in Education Foundation (the other is the annual Golf Tournament). All finalists and overall winners received cash awards to help continue their programs by the Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that obtains, raises, and administers funds for educational purposes to K-12 public schools serving the City of Carlsbad. The mission of the Foundation is to create and enhance educational opportunities and programs for both students and faculty by developing a partnership between local schools and the Carlsbad business community.

The event paid tribute to teachers who go above and beyond by creating exceptional programs to enhance their students’ life-long learning skills. Award categories were innovative, entrepreneurial, adopted or adapted, and science. Sponsors for the awards were LEGOLAND California, the North County Times, todayslocalnews, and Invitrogen.

One finalist from each award category received additional funding and recognition as the “Most Outstanding Educational Program of 2005” in their respective category.
