On the first Sunday in December 2005 the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce's Armed Forces Task Force put on the 1st Annual Patriotic Rally: Holiday Car Show & BBQ for over 2,000 Marines at Camp Pendleton's School of Infantry.

The Marines at the School of Infantry are at Camp Pendleton for an intense six-week program to learn the skills and tactics of infantry warfare. Their grueling schedule keeps them busy six days a week and does not permit them to leave the base during their training.

In order to uplift their spirits during the holiday season when most people are spending time with loved ones, the Armed Services Task Force hosted a rally complete with food fun and prizes.

"We wanted to thank these Marines for their hard work and dedication to our people and our country. What better way to do so than with a BBQ and relaxing day of fun," said Ted Owen, Carlsbad Chamber president and CEO.

The day included prize giveaways with chance drawing items like iPod's, Leatherman multi-tools, a paintball gun with gear, a Pete Carroll signed football and much more. In addition, a free calling card was given to each of the 2,000 plus Marines.
