Owen is the the former publisher of the San Diego Business Journal. He serves on the board of the Carlsbad Convention and Visitors Bureau, Cal State San Marcos School of Business, Oceanside School of Business and Technology and many others. His myriad of awards and honors include Volunteer of the Year from the County of San Diego, the U.S. Small Business Administration's Media Advocate of the Year and the Visionary Leader of the Year from the Carlsbad Convention and Visitors Bureau. Owen received his master's degree at National University in San Diego. His vision and leadership has positioned the Carlsbad chamber as the second largest chamber and business organization in San Diego County and the 10th largest chamber in the state of California.
First Friday Breakfast is the chamber's premiere networking and business promotional event, and one of the most regularly attended monthly programs. The breakfast will be from 7 to 9 a.m. Nov. 2 at a new location, the Hilton Garden Inn, 6450 Carlsbad Blvd., Carlsbad. Tickets for the event are $25 for chamber members and $35 for prospective members registered by Oct. 26. After Oct. 26, and at the door, tickets are $40. Sorry, but there are no refunds. At the door, seating is not guaranteed and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
