The College of Business Administration at California State University San Marcos officially opened the doors to its new home, Markstein Hall, on the last Thursday in April. The new state-of-the-art facility will play an essential role in educating future business leaders and developing collaborative relationships among students, faculty and the business community.

"Cal State San Marcos has a fundamental role in developing future business leaders for the region," said Karen Haynes, President of Cal Sate San Marcos. "Markstein Hall will help us to attract new students to our campus, who as graduates, will contribute to the economic growth of the San Diego area."

The grand opening of Markstein Hall included a ceremony in which people were able to learn more about the future of business education at Cal State San Marcos and to see first hand the newest addition to the campus. The program for the event included remarks and a ribbon cutting by CSU San Marcos President, Haynes; CSU Trustee President, Murray Galinson; Dean of the Business College, Dennis Guseman and North County Chambers of Commerce. Additionally, a presentation of proclamations and building tours for the public was shown.

The modern architectural design of Markstein Hall is highlighted by a blend of glass, concrete and stainless steel features. The nearly 88,000-square-foot building and plaza is named in honor of Ken and Carole Markstein, who donated $5 million to provide technology and furnishing upgrades for the facility. Markstein Hall embodies the theme of connectivity, a building where people will be able to come together in a shared physical space for the purpose of learning, creating and developing relationships with each other and within the business world beyond the campus.

The facility aims to encourage interaction between the faculty and community through meetings and events that bring business people to campus for seminars, conferences or speaking engagements. The building features a 120-seat lecture auditorium, seven case study rooms, fourteen classrooms, five computer rooms, a faculty lounge and terrace, four conference rooms, and MBA and CoBA advising Suite, 88 faculty offices, a deans boardroom, executive meeting rooms, department offices and breakout rooms.
According to Guseman, University programs such as In The Executive Chair, Senior Experience Program, an MBA project class and the Executive in Residence program are vehicles that will help to develop relationships between local executives and students.

"The College of Business Administration is in the process of developing an entrepreneurial program that will teach students the skills and knowledge involved in entrepreneurship. These skills will position them as graduates to create and develop new businesses within the region," said Guseman.

The College of Business Administration at California State University has established itself as a major player in economic development within the region by providing future business leaders and managers with an exceptional education. The College works with organizations and associations to promote economic growth and serves a valuable resource for local business development efforts.
