Six years ago, Andy Davis was a local who began working in the bar at Mas Fina Cantina when his friend purchased the restaurant and improved the interior. He worked his way up to bar manager and hired Sarah, from Vista, as a cocktail waitress.
Andy and Sarah began dating sometime later and soon had plans to get married. At the same time, the Cantina owner decided to sell the bar. The pair loved the place and wanted to purchase it and turn the Cantina into a family business. On May 19, 2006, Andy and Sarah, along with their partner, Joe Dodelin, purchased Mas Fina Cantina. Two days later they were married.
"This is the kind of small bar and restaurant where you know everyone by name and there are lots of regulars," said Andy. "The food is hearty and includes a little of everything."
A little of everything means sandwiches, burgers, Mexican food, Italian dishes, large onion rings, and pizza to go with the beer on tap. There are daily lunch specials and football specials for Sunday and Monday nights. The restaurant and bar are intimate, with just six tables inside, six outside and bar seating.
Located in the Village of Carlsbad, the Cantina is located just a short walk down State Street. When you are there, look for the outdoor tables and you can always find locals sitting around enjoying lunch, dinner or a beer.
"We get a lively crowd at night, but it's not too rowdy," Andy said. "It's a place to come relax, meet friends and watch a game just about any time".
So stop by and say "hello" to Andy behind the bar and get to know the Village locals. You may not see Sarah there for a while because she is newly pregnant and spending more time at home handling the bookkeeping.
