Carlsbad's State of the City luncheon, the annual event during which Mayor Claude “Bud” Lewis addresses city council members, residents and businesspeople, will be at 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Four Seasons Resort Aviara.

Sponsored by the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, the event is the foremost forum for citizens to learn about the status of the city.

This year's State of the City luncheon will once again preview the city's progress, financial state, including the budget and reserves, infrastructure, including roads, parks and, of course, the new golf course. Viewers will learn about the status of Prop. D implementations, and the upcoming General Plan update process. On-going initiatives including downtown redevelopment and the Ponto Vision plan will also be highlighted. The city's focus on environmentally sustainable programs and practices will be featured.

“The State of the City will also highlight the city's effort to develop policies that ensure a smooth transition from a city that was being built to a city that is nearly built out. This new chapter in the city's life will require more focus on sustainable practices to ensure that the quality of life that we enjoy in Carlsbad can be continued,” said Denise Walker Vedder, communications manager for the City of Carlsbad.

The much-anticipated event is attended by a mixture of people, including those who live and work in Carlsbad.

Attendees will enjoy a gourmet lunch during the presentation.
