NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NRG) owns and operates power-generating facilities, in the United States, Australia, Germany and Brazil.
As members of the California community, NRG's facilities and 138 employees have been recognized on numerous occasions for their stewardship of the environment, including recognition from state and local governments for their efforts to eradicate "Killer Algae" (Caulerpa taxifolia).
From 1998 to 2001, NRG acquired and built nearly 2000 megawatts of generating capacity for the State of California (enough electricity to power nearly two million homes). Facilities are located in San Diego, Carlsbad, El Segundo, Long Beach, Chowchilla and Red Bluff, including two thermal facilities in San Diego and San Francisco.
NRG came to California several years ago with a vision to provide reliable wholesale electricity safely and in a manner consistent with their civic and environmental commitment to the communities they serve. In Carlsbad and in San Diego County, they saw an opportunity to do just that. NRG strives to be the leading non-utility power generation company in the world. They work to achieve this primarily through continuously enhancing the operational and technical capability of their generating fleet, and plan to deliver these vital services in Carlsbad and the rest of California.
With the recently acquired Texas Genco, NRG currently owns and operates a diverse portfolio of power-generating facilities capable of generating more than 25,000 megawatts of power. The facilities are located primarily in Texas and in the Northeast, South Central and Western regions of the United States. NRG’s operations include baseload, intermediate, peaking and cogeneration facilities, thermal energy production and energy resource recovery facilities.
